Data Analyst / Report Writer (Senior Associate)

Title of Position: Data Analyst / Report Writer (Senior Associate)

Period: Two year time limited, full-time non-merit position

Starting Date: Open until filled, 1st review of submission January 15, 2013

Compensation: Competitive salary and full time state benefits

The Data Analyst will provide essential support for the Council’s use of data to improve postsecondary education policy and practice in Kentucky by maintaining the statewide student database used to track degree completion, graduation rates, college readiness and all other aspects of student access and success. In addition to database management, this position serves the agency in data collection and reporting needs.

This individual will create, maintain and administer databases, oversee and manage the Council’s data warehouse, respond to data requests from various units within the Council and its partners, and build reports in various reporting tools, such as SSRS, SAS, and Business Objects. This position also ensures that the Council’s data is clean, secure, and readily available to agency staff. Additionally, the position will implement optimal performance of all databases and data warehouses. This position will report directly to the Director of Information Systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain CPE databases
  • Manage the technical aspects of data collection, cleansing and reporting
  • Develop and enhance data models and databases
  • Coordinate database activities with application developers and network administrators
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and roles for databases and applications
  • Ensure data quality by working with external and CPE staff to troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Write SQL queries, stored procedures, scheduled tasks and alerts
  • Determine database requirements for large scale development projects
  • Maintain the content of the Program Inventory and various other CPE databases
  • Design and maintain the data submission edits and frequency reports
  • Respond to information requests from Council staff, partners, and others
  • Keep informed about changes in software that pertains to the SQL server database, Business Objects, and SAS
  • Inform the Director, Information Systems on status of assigned tasks
  • Design, install and monitor performance and integrity of SQL 2005, 2008, SQL Reporting Services, SSIS in standalone and in clustered environments
  • Participate in Disaster Recovery planning and testing procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or Math
  • May substitute a combination of an Associate’s degree and/or work experience
  • At least 5 years of related work experience
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft SQL Server management. Other database engine experience is desired
  • Experience in at least one of the following associated technology areas; Business Objects 3.1 and/or 4.0, SharePoint 2010, RedGate
  • A mix of strong organizational, writing and communication skills
  • The ability to prioritize competing demands in a changing, collaborative environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work as part of a team
  • Strong follow-through skills and attention to detail, especially under critical deadlines
