The conference is sponsored by the Council on Postsecondary Education and the public colleges and universities in Kentucky and brings middle school program participants to the campus of a public institution. The conference programs will:
- Provide information that strengthen students' understanding of the precollege or rigorous high school currriculum and its role in their pursuit of college admission, scholarships, and a successful college experience.
- Provide academic enrichment activities for middle and junior high school minority students and encourage them to stay in school and enter college;
- Make young African American students aware of the benefits and value of college and consider college as an achievable option;
- Prepare these students to be successful in college-level work and persist to college graduation.
The statewide conference brings program participants to a central location to enhance their knowledge of the tools required to enroll in and graduate from a postsecondary institution. Workshop sessions focus on: early preparation for postsecondary education, enrollment in rigorous courses, and funding their postsecondary education.
