Kentucky: Council on Postsecondary Education

Returning Adults

The Goal

In partnership with Kentucky's public and independent postsecondary institutions, the college access outreach initiative will encourage adults with some college but no bachelor's degree to return to college to complete their degree. CPE has identified approximately 311,000 potential returning adults in Kentucky that attended a state public university and still live in the state.

The Strategy

Outreach efforts for this audience are being coordinated in two phases.

PHASE ONE- PROJECT GRADUATE

The first phase of outreach to returning adults, called Project Graduate, focuses on more than 11,000 Kentuckians who have 90 or more credit hours from a Kentucky public college or university but no bachelor’s degree.

PHASE TWO

In partnership with Kentucky's postsecondary institutions, the Council is working with Stamats, Inc., to develop a statewide outreach plan based on the findings of the 2007 Study of Kentucky Returning Adults (300KPDF), which surveyed adults with some college to identify motivations, barriers and needs related to returning to college to finish their degree.
