Kentucky Adult Education to host recognition ceremony for adult education providers

(Frankfort, KY) - Kentucky Adult Education will host a recognition luncheon for Kentucky adult education providers and education leaders from all 120 counties across the state on TUESDAY, April 26 at 12:45 p.m. in the Cochran Room at the Galt House in Louisville.

Susan Scalfani, assistant secretary for vocational and adult education at the U.S. Department of Education, will give brief remarks recognizing these individuals for their contribution to adult education and workforce development in Kentucky. Cheryl King, vice president for Kentucky Adult Education, a unit of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education; Tom Layzell, president of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, and Ron Greenberg, chair of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education are also scheduled to speak.

This event will bring together Kentucky adult education providers and education leaders to celebrate progress in improving adult literacy and demonstrate the critical role of adult education in the Commonwealth's postsecondary education system and workforce development. Adult education providers will be recognized for the critical role they have played in the progress Kentucky has achieved in adult education over the last 5 years. Enrollment in adult education programs has grown by 135 percent since 2000, increasing from 51,177 to 120,051 in 2004. Workplace education enrollment has climbed from 8,724 to 51,388 in the last four years and family literacy enrollment has grown from 1,357 to 4,397 since 2001.
