Kentucky: Council on Postsecondary Education

Optometry Contract Spaces

To train new optometrists, the Commonwealth contracts with several schools of optometry outside the state to reserve spaces for Kentucky students. Kentucky students compete for admission to a participating school of optometry for one of the 14 spaces reserved under the Kentucky quota system. Each school or college of optometry awards the Kentucky contract positions to students accepted into its program. Students admitted under the contract program are charged reduced rates and each student is responsible for fees. In addition to the payment by the student, Kentucky pays a fee for each student to the enrolling institution for a total of four years. Other than the requirement that the applicant be a Kentucky resident, the student does not have an obligation to Kentucky under the contract program
