Adult Learner Initiative

The goal of the Kentucky Adult Learner Initiative is to increase the educational attainment of Kentucky’s adult population to meet Kentucky's goal to Double the Number of college graduates by 2020.  Kentucky's Double the Numbers plan calls for the adult college participation rate to increase from 3.6% to 4.5% in 2020.

Objectives

The main objectives of the Kentucky Adult Learner Initiative are to:

  1. Create a comprehensive policy framework at both the state and institutional levels to support adult learners, and
  2. Encourage more adults and promote the importance of baccalaureate degrees among the working-age population through a marketing campaign and initiatives with employers.
Target Audience

This target population includes several subgroups:

  1. Adults who started but never completed a bachelor’s degree
  2. Adults with an associate’s degree who want to complete a bachelor’s degree
  3. High school graduates with no postsecondary experience, and
  4. GED completers with no postsecondary experience.
