Postsecondary Professional Development

Postsecondary Professional Development
Total = $825,000

  • Five online modules and an informational website were developed for faculty who teach freshman year or introductory courses and teacher education faculty who train future teachers. The modules integrate reading material, videos clips, and resources related to implementing Senate Bill 1 (2009) and the Kentucky Core Academic Standards, the impact on assessment and accountability, English language arts and literacy, mathematics, and best practices for highly effective teaching. The website provided a place to register for professional development and obtain information about statewide implementation plans and resources.
  • Seven regional workshops and two online webinars were collaboratively developed and delivered by those listed below. The presentations and discussions focused on implementing the Common Core Standards (with an emphasis on the high school standards and practices), assessment and accountability (in the context of postsecondary education), effective teaching strategies (in the context of postsecondary education), and the impact on English/language arts and literacy, mathematics, and teacher education.
  • The Kentucky Virtual Campus (KYVC) provided technical support in the design and delivery of the online modules and registration process for the modules, workshops and webinars. Along with these services, enrollment progress and inquiries are monitored via reports thereby allowing assessment of the SB1 initiative.
  • The Kentucky University P20 Innovation Lab designed two surveys that evaluated the adequacy and impact of the professional development. The data has been collected and is being analyzed.
