Endowment Match Programs
The Endowment Match Program matches state funds dollar-for-dollar with private gifts to grow endowments and encourage research at Kentucky’s public universities. Endowment proceeds are used to fund endowed chairs, professorships, research scholars, research staff, graduate fellowships, undergraduate scholarships, research infrastructure, and mission support at these institutions. The program received General Fund appropriations of $110 million in 1998-00 and $120 million in 2000-02. The 2003 Budget Bill (HB 269) appropriated $11,856,000 to pay debt service on a bond issue that provided another $120 million for the program in 2002-04.
