About the Council on Postsecondary Education
The Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) is Kentucky’s coordinating body for postsecondary education and is committed to strengthening the commonwealth’s workforce, economy, and quality of life through the continuous improvement and efficient operation of a high-quality, diverse, and accessible system of postsecondary education.
Workforce and Economic Development Initiatives
The primary purpose of Kentucky’s postsecondary education institutions is to produce adaptive, highly skilled workers to fuel the economy. To strengthen the system’s outcomes, the Council’s Workforce Initiatives Unit focuses on aligning state workforce needs with higher education’s initiatives, programs and curriculums.
Duties and Responsibilities
Special workforce initiatives
- Review and understand details of each specific workforce and economic development initiatives.
- Review and understand policy and regulations related to workforce and economic development.
- Monitor legislative committees assigned which pertain to statewide workforce and economic development.
- Assist with the development and execution of implementation plans pertaining to workforce and economic development.
- Serve as the primary contact point for any steering/advisory committees related to workforce and economic development.
- Communicate with stakeholders that inquire about workforce and economic development initiatives.
Workforce – General
- Collect and analyze data related to workforce success.
- Assist with planning any statewide convenings.
- Assist program manager and vice president related to healthcare-related initiatives.
- Work with the CPE communications unit on website information, press releases, and any external communications.
- Compile documentation of letters, reports, and summary minutes of meetings and house them in the appropriate TEAMS folder.
- Maintain mailing lists for workforce initiatives.
- Schedule meetings and gather preparation materials as needed.
- Arrange travel, lodging, etc., for work related to workforce initiatives.
- Help prepare for speaker engagements (slide decks & talking points).
- Coordinate TEAMS calendar events and activities in support of department wide initiatives.
- Attend external meetings as assigned, representing the workforce and economic development unit and the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of three years’ experience at a postsecondary institution or an education-related organization, or with career and economic development planning OR a master’s degree or above in public policy, education policy, economic development or related fields.
- Conceptualize, plan, manage and implement statewide higher education projects that engage numerous stakeholders at the campuses and key education partners.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Computer skills-MS Word Office products.
