Heroes to Healers: Kentucky’s Military-Trained Healthcare Workforce
The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) has launched the Heroes to Healers (H2H) initiative to support the transition of military-trained healthcare professionals into Kentucky’s civilian healthcare workforce.
Program Purpose
Heroes to Healers is designed to recognize the extensive training and experience of military healthcare personnel and accelerate their entry into the civilian healthcare workforce through streamlined academic pathways, credentialing support, and direct connections to Kentucky employers.
Key Components
- Bridge programs through postsecondary institutions that apply military training toward civilian credentials.
- Alignment with the Department of Defense SkillBridge program to recruit and support transitioning service members.
- Collaboration with Kentucky healthcare employers to facilitate job placement opportunities.
- Engagement with professional licensure boards to ensure recognition of military medical experience.
- Targeted marketing and outreach strategies to recruit service members into Kentucky-based healthcare roles
Current Focus Areas
CPE is actively working to expand the network of Kentucky healthcare employers approved under the DOD SkillBridge program and streamline credentialing processes to reduce barriers for incoming veterans. Ongoing collaboration with stakeholders and regular legislative reporting help ensure program transparency, accountability, and impact.
