Military Students Interested in UK

The University of Kentucky is extremely proud of its long standing relationship with the men and women in uniform that bravely serve this country.   UK partners with the Department of Veterans Affairs in offering the Veteran Success on Campus (VSOC) program to its student veterans and family members.  Having this resource available greatly reduces VA benefits related stress for our students.

The University of Kentucky has one of the best Military Credit policies within higher education.  Here at UK we transfer only the military credit that can actually be used towards your degree.  So if it benefits you as the student and has been approved by transfer equivalency, we accept it, if it doesn't, we don't.  UK follows the American Council on Education's recommendations when awarding transfer credit whenever possible, however, UK must offer an equivalency in order for you to be awarded credit.

Military credit is not used in the admissions decision and will not count towards the 24 credits needed to be considered as a transfer, unless accompanied by at least 15 hours of actual college credit.

The Veteran Resource Center

The new 2,000 square foot Veterans Resource Center was established to support our students during all phases of their transition.  The center is comprised of a computer lab and printing station as well as lounge and dedicated study spaces.

UK 201 for Veterans

All incoming veterans are registered for a transition and orientation class specifically designed for them.  This class is a graded, 2 credit hour course that dramatically increases student veteran retention and graduation.  This unique course connects student veterans to all of the resources they will need to be successful.

The Veterans Resource Team is made up of dedicated professionals who have an interest in your success. The Team is comprised of professionals from several departments across campus, all with the common goal of helping our veterans accomplish their academic mission.

Military/Student Organizations

UK has two student organizations dedicated to the service of our active military and veteran populations:

  • The University of Kentucky Student Veterans Association (UKSVA) is comprised of student veterans dedicated to the recruitment, education, and support of all veterans attending the University.
  • Honoring Our Military Everywhere (HOME) is a student organization that supports our troops both at home and abroad.

The University of Kentucky also proudly hosts two stellar Reserve Officer Training programs that continue to produce quality leadership for the Army and Air Force.
