The Office of Military and Veteran Student Services (OMVSS) mission is helping active
duty, reserve, veterans and their families reach their educational, career, and life
goals. The office provides a variety of services including advocacy during every phase
of the college educational pursuit.
FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS:
Our goal is to streamline the recruitment and admissions processes by:
• Serving as a single point of contact for military and veteran applicants;
• Helping veterans understand VA benefits and other financial options available;
• Implementing new outreach efforts for military service members and veterans;
• Offering flexibility and guidance for active duty personnel and veterans; and
• Assisting in the evaluation of transfer credits.
The University of Louisville was named a Military Friendly School for 2017 by G.I. Jobs, a monthly magazine designed to help veterans make the transition from military service to the civilian workforce. U of L has made the magazine’s list four years in a row.
Getting Started at the University of Louisville
One of our key roles is to create a smooth transition from military life to student life by devoting individualized support to veteran students and their families. The support includes a broad range of services and coordination with VA, university departments, and other community organizations.
Office of Military and Veteran Student Services (OMVSS)
We provide walk-in counseling and virtual supports to both current and prospective students, who are active duty, reserve, veterans and their families. OMVSS works with departments and offices across campus to help veteran students obtain answers to their questions more effectively and efficiently.
Our staff can assist with –
- Identifying federal and state education benefit options;
- Advocating military transfer credit;
- Withdrawals/re-admit due to deployments or call to Active Duty status;
- Connecting veteran students with campus resources, veteran service providers, and other agencies; and
- Encouraging academic success at the University of Louisville.
