Overview of the Position
The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) seeks a bachelor or graduate-level Instructional Design Intern to support the development of engaging, high-quality learning experiences for both CPE and GEAR UP Kentucky (GUK). This position will collaborate with content experts and program staff to design, enhance, and implement online training and orientation modules. The intern will gain hands-on experience in instructional design, e-learning development, and user-centered training strategies while contributing to statewide impact. Position is limited to between the months of May through September.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review existing online orientation and training modules and provide recommendations for improvement based on instructional design best practices
- Design and develop engaging online learning experiences aligned with program priorities
- Collaborate with content experts and program staff to translate complex information into clear, user-friendly training modules
- Create multimedia learning components, including videos, interactive activities, resources, and assessments
- Build and format courses within the in-house learning management system (LMS)
- Present design recommendations, prototypes, and completed modules to stakeholders
- Conduct user testing with staff and incorporate feedback to refine and improve learning experiences
- Apply instructional design principles to ensure content is engaging, accessible, and effective
Qualifications
Preferred Education and Experience
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in instructional design, learning experience design, educational technology or a related field at a Kentucky college or university.
Minimum Requirements
- Foundational knowledge of instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, backward design)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to translate complex content into clear, engaging learning experiences
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing e-learning modules or online training content
- Familiarity with LMS platforms (e.g., easygenerator or similar tools)
- Experience creating multimedia content (video, graphics, interactive elements)
- Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices
- Experience conducting user testing or incorporating feedback into design
